Eugene R. McGrath is the former Chairman of the Board of Consolidated Edison, Inc., a holding company whose largest subsidiary is Consolidated Edison Company of New York. Mr. McGrath joined Con Edison as an engineer following graduation from college in 1963. He held key executive positions in the utility’s major operating and customer service areas and managed fossil-fired and nuclear generating plants. He became Chairman in 1990 and served as Chief Executive Officer from 1990 through August 2005.
Mr. McGrath currently serves as a Director or Trustee of Con Edison, Associated Electric & Gas Services Limited, GAMCO Investors, Inc., Sensus (Bermuda 2) Ltd. and Sensus USA Inc. He served as a director of the Schering Plough Corporation from 2000 to 2009.
Mr. McGrath served on the board of directors of many organizations that advance economic development, human services, culture and education, including the Economic Club of New York, The Federal Reserve Bank of New York, the Committee for Economic Development, Edison Electric Institute, the Fresh Air Fund, Barnard College, Manhattan College, the Partnership for New York City, the American Museum of Natural History and the Wildlife Conservation Society. He served as Chairman of the Business Council of New York State, the Regional Plan Association, the Union Square Partnership, United Way of New York City and the Energy Association of New York State. He was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 1991.
