China Tour 2017

On March 20-23, 2017, we will take our 5th tour group to China for three days of meetings and network building. This tour provides cleantech CEOs and investors with an excellent taste of the landscape, ecosystem, and operating context in China, as well as the opportunity to expose their companies to multiple China-based investors and partners. Based on feedback from past participants, the days of Monday, March 20th and Friday, March 24th will be left open for those wishing to organize their own meetings or travel in/out.

You can download the full 2017 Tour brochure here and review testimonials and feedback from our previous participants here. The 2017 China Tour group has been finalized, but we invite any interested parties to contact us at chinatour@cleantech.com for any China-related inquiries.

To see a full list of cleantech companies represented in the two showcases, you can download our showcase brochure here. And for more descriptions of the tour party and the companies represented, you can download our company booklet here.

What You'll Experience

Centered around two half-day showcase events in 2 cities – Beijing and Shanghai – the “tourists” will present themselves and their companies to China-based investors and corporations who have strong interests in western cleantech technology. Throughout the tour, companies will have multiple opportunities to create valuable connections with some of the key players in China.

In addition to the showcases, we will organize a few exclusive meetings to give the group exposure to all the elements of the ecosystem and insights into how business gets done. In that spirit, on past tours, we have had private workshop-style meetings with players such as: cross-border cleantech VC investors, technology entrepreneurs (Chinese and foreign) with experience of building and running companies in China, and law firms (providing advice on key legal issues, from company incorporation types to IP protection).

Tour Leaders

  • Richard Youngman, CEO, Cleantech Group

Since January 2016, Richard Youngman has been CEO of San-Francisco based Cleantech Group (CTG). This followed 7 years of driving the growth of CTG’s activities outside North America, especially in Europe and Israel, and Asia, based in CTG’s office in London.

Richard has more than eight years experience researching cleantech innovation, venture capital markets, and start-ups across Europe and globally. He is a regular keynote speaker at major cleantech events and is the driving force behind the annual Global Cleantech 100, a list of the world’s most promising private cleantech companies.

Before CTG, he was Vice President of Research & Operations at Library House, where he ran the Research team, which discovered and collected the information about high-growth companies that underpinned that company’s data, analytical, and event services. Before Library House, Richard ran his own advisory firm conducting research and consulting on the measurement and evaluation of intangible assets and intellectual capital for organizations such as the European Commission. This followed nine years building a broad-based finance and research background with leading financial institutions such as ABN AMRO, Barclays Capital and BZW in the City of London. His work was centered on the debt markets and revolved around financing M&A deals and advising clients on achieving alignment between their financial and strategic plans.

Richard has an MA from Cambridge University, and an MBA from Theseus International Management Institute, Sophia Antipolis, France.
